Why shouldn’t you buy ready made affiliate websites? For starters they’re incredibly expensive. A profitable website can set you back thousands of dollars. If you don’t know what you’re doing, your website can stall too. This is very likely if you don’t know how to keep an affiliate site profitable, and/or build it up and grow it. A website might be profitable today, or when it sells, but is your investment solid, or built on shifting ground?

There’s a temptation to purchase a pre-made affiliate website and I can definitely see why. I spent years trying to build my own niche websites and following a lot of bad advice. Learning how to build a niche website and get free traffic takes time and effort. There’s a skill to it which can take a long time to attain.

Even after months of hard work, your site can fail, too. So if you’re going to buy an expensive affiliate site in the hope of it remaining profitable, it’s worth investing in your education too. Buying a bunch of ready made portfolio websites is surly an investment too right? Not necessarily. A website owner can spend a lot of time building it up to make it profitable. When that activity stops, it quickly loses value. This is especially true if the traffic is built up organically.

One of my portfolio websites was built around the niche of mushroom harvesting! It wasn’t a success ultimately but it taught me a valuable few lessons. I had taken an online course which taught how to build a niche site and get it ranking.

I picked my niche because it offered a good amount of traffic and very little competition. Unfortunately there was a reason for this – it was a difficult niche to monetise. Add that to my lack of passion for the niche and I can see now why the site failed. It did get traffic and it did get to the top of Google. In fact I should have sold it when it was at its height! Unfortunately after that I stopped working on it and it dropped off the rankings.

There were other gardeners who knew much more than me and had much more passion for the topic. They soon took over the top place.

If you still want to buy ready made affiliate websites, choose carefully. Make sure you do your due diligence first before you commit to a purchase. Sites like Empireflippers and Flippa.com are the places to look.

Weed Out The Scammers

Make sure you buy a website which is at least 2 years old. Most spammy websites which offer little value don’t make it to 2 years. A 2 year old domain will also have a higher authority straight away with Google.

Use the last 12 months of earning data to make a value decision on a website. Don’t trust a few months of data which can easily have been inflated to increase it’s value.

Remember it’s pretty risky buying a website based on someone’s value of it. Make sure you do your due diligence and research the site thoroughly before committing to a purchase.

The Sales Funnel Explained – The Landing Page

The landing page is where the sales funnel starts for the visitor. But before this step, the visitor had to have found an advert or piece of content in order to come to the website. So really, a sales funnel starts with marketing. Without marketing, no one will come to the landing page and you can’t start building subscribers. More on marketing later on!

Let’s start with the landing page.

A landing page is a simple web page which is designed with one purpose – to get a website visitor to subscribe to an email list. For this reason, it’s far better to have a web page which is completely separate from a website. If you’re using a website (like this one) there’s many distractions and options for a visitor. The more options there are, the less likely a visitor is to take a specific action on your website. Here’s an example of a landing page which is much simpler than a website:

Testing and Measuring

As with all elements of a sales funnel, the online marketing tests and measures. This means they track their results in terms of adverts, opt-in rates and cross test different landing pages, pictures and emails to see what works best.

Across 1000 advert impressions, one landing page might perform considerably better than another. It is the job of the marketer to find the best performing ad copy, targeted audience, pictures and so on, to give the visitor the best experience on the way through the sales funnel.

If the targeting is good and the right person is sent into the sales funnel, they are more likely to be in sync with what you are offering and therefore purchase a product from your sales funnel once they have opted into your email list.

With certain sales funnels, a number of emails are sent out to a subscriber to help them build trust in the products you are selling, in you and to overcome any scepticism they might have.

A red hot visitor is ready to buy. They know what the product is and have their credit card in hand. You just need to make it easy for them to do so and make the buying process straight forward and simple.

With a specific landing page, they have much less choice. Although a landing page needs to comply with whatever marketing platform you use, you still want to make it very simple.

A landing page should only give a visitor two options, rather than the many you get on a website: click away and leave the site, or sign up to the sales funnel. If you’re split testing something there should only be a small change; perhaps like the wording on your submit button. With two almost identical landing pages, you can run a few thousand visitors to both, and look for noticeable differences in data. One landing page may perform better than another, even with only a small change. As you continue to do this with different elements of your landing page, you can build up a picture of what a good landing page looks like, which converts a higher number of visitors into subscribers.
